A Brief History of Fresh Hair in a Nutshell
Set up during the latter half of 2009 amid a blizzard of snow (the cold icy kind that falls from the sky as opposed to the kind which keeps many a record label shaking off their morning after haze) and alcohol (erm....the kind that gets you pissed...quick) Fresh Hair Records is the latest in a long, long line of indepedent record labels that hope to attract a bit of attention and sell a few quality records whilst embroiling themselves in the business that people like to refer to as music.
A collective based in St.Helens, Fresh Hair is ostensibly run by local n'er do wells The Loungs and local studio owner Andy Bowes and was originally set up in order to release 'Big Wow', the band's marvellous 2nd album. After much to-ing and fro-ing from a number of labels, some good, some bad and some frankly horrid, The Loungs decided that in keeping with the heavy DIY ethic that they already applied to managing, producing and artwork that they would give the old record label business a whirl themselves in an attempt to oversee all aspects of the band's releases and to help keep up a schedule of new music that had fallen by the wayside through no fault of their own since the well received release of their debut album 'We Are The Champ' in 2007. They began doing Google searches, talking to people who knew people, who knew people and even read a book about it in preperation.
The first fruits of Fresh Hair Records came in the form of a free download album by The Loungs 'B-Side's To Non-Existent A-Side's', a raggle-taggle collection of B-sides, demos, rarities and offcuts released monthly through www.theloungs.co.uk over the coming 12 months but the first actual, proper, bona fide release comes early 2010 in the form of 'Big Wow' which will be distributed by the lovely people at Cargo Distribution in the UK and be available to buy on CD and download.
