Woody Allen films, gang mentality, Comet Girls, heartbroken robots, sea-shells, kazoos, planets, space travel, sharing gig tickets and cigarettes with friends, a baseball bat named 'Gretyl', band rivalry, leading physicists receiving messages about the future of the world by phone, powered down toys, Laurel and Hardy and last but not least the fun to be had sitting in a field on a beautiful sunny day listening to your favourite bands whilst blind drunk.

These are just a handful of topics covered within the 12 tracks that make up BIG WOW the 2nd album from THE LOUNGS due for release March 2010.

Danny (Guitars) Jamie (Guitars, vocals) Neil (Bass, vocals) Martin (Keyboards, vocals) and Gaz (Drums) arrived on the scene in 2006 amid a flurry of press, single releases and ramshackle yet heartwarming live shows. Festival performances at Glastonbury and Bestival amongst many others and TV appearances on Channel 4 and as the soundtrack to peak-time BBC1 drama all surrounded the release of WE ARE THE CHAMP their debut album.

Widely acclaimed WE ARE THE CHAMP was described as:

BIG WOW carries on in the same schizophrenic tradition, taking in a mulitude of different styles and subjects throughout it's relatively short duration. From the electronic pulse and call to arms of opener 12 HAND, brass crammed and harmony filled ANNIE HALL and the sixties psychedelic pop/heavy metal mash of COMET GIRL through to the sunshine guitar pop of SUNBEAT, vocodered vocal and grandiose backing of YER BLOOZE, electronic punk of JACK SARFATTI, Bowie-esque leanings of JUPITER AND MARS through to the confusing football chant rabble of epic closer GRETYL the album does'nt let up and does'nt let down.

"Somebody we know said they'd decided that they don't need friends now that they've got this album. I think that pretty much sums it up."

So why has it taken so long for the follow up?

"BIG WOW was mostly recorded immediately after the first one but it's taken this long to figure out what we were going to do with it and there has been a definite view of wanting to 'try something different'. In the time it's taken we've been gigging extensively pretty much non stop, planning on making things a bit special this time around by filming a video for each of the album tracks and writing material for the inevitable third album. We can't stomach the idea of having to wait around this long to release more material again....hence FRESH HAIR RECORDS."

Ah yes. THE LOUNGS have become the latest in a long line of bands to set up and run their own record label. Teaming up with local studio owner ANDY BOWES and run from CATALYST STUDIOS in THE LOUNGS' hometown of St.Helens, FRESH HAIR RECORDS is set to become an integral part of the band's strong DIY ethic.

"It's no secret that everything has changed drastically over the past few years with regards to recording and releasing music. We've always had a huge hand in the process be it self-producing our albums, artwork and design through to management, booking gigs etc. so it seemed like the next logical step. It's all very exciting really and we're already looking into releasing more material in the form of free downloads and the like plus theres a whole host of other bands that we'd love to get involved with when we've found our feet. We're just like Radiohead basically....just on the level of The Frank And Walters....but without their advertising budget...ahem"

"We've worked with Andy for long enough now to be able to all shout and scream abuse at each other without taking anything to heart and if theres one thing that we've learned it's that there's a lot of shouting and screaming to be done when recording and releasing albums so it should be a marriage made in heaven. It's much easier that way."
